This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you visit rainerwilleke.ca, how it is used, and the choices you have. The site is a personal blog by Rainer Willeke, based in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia, Canada. This policy was last updated on October 6, 2026.

Who runs this site

This site is run by me, Rainer Willeke. If you have questions about this policy or about your information, you can reach me through the Contact Me page.

Information you send me

If you use the contact form, I collect the name, email address and message you enter. I use this only to read and reply to your message. The message is emailed to me and is also stored in the site’s WordPress database so that I can find it again. Spam-filtering tools may check what you submit. I do not sell your information.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this one receives basic technical information whenever you visit, such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the page that referred you. This is collected by the site’s hosting and security tools and by the analytics and advertising services described below.

Cookies and your consent choices

This site uses cookies and similar technologies. A cookie banner, provided by Cookie Compliance for WordPress (Hu-manity.co), lets you choose which optional cookies to allow, and it records your choice so it can be respected on later visits. Cookies that are needed for the site to work are always on. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.

Analytics

I use two analytics services to understand how the site is used and to improve it:

  • Google Analytics, added through the Site Kit by Google plugin, reports on visits, pages viewed and general location. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Microsoft Clarity records how visitors interact with pages, such as clicks, taps and scrolling, and may produce heatmaps and session replays. Its handling of data is described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

Advertising

This site shows advertising provided by Google AdSense. To do this, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies, and may collect information such as your IP address and device details, to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, to measure how ads perform, and to help prevent fraud. These third parties handle that information under their own privacy policies, and I do not control it. Google explains more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

You can control ads in several ways. Google’s Ad Settings lets you turn off personalized ads from Google. The AdChoices program of the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada lets you opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies. Where this site offers consent choices, I respect them. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland may also see a consent message provided by Google.

Outside links and embedded content

Some pages embed YouTube videos or link to other sites, including Facebook, Adobe Stock, and my other sites: EmoDyn, Raindog Solutions and Rainer Willeke Music. Those services have their own privacy practices and may set their own cookies, and this policy does not cover them.

Services that help run the site

Several services help the site run securely and quickly, and they may process visitor data such as IP addresses in the course of doing so. They include Cloudflare (content delivery and security), WPMU DEV’s content delivery network (site speed), Wordfence (security), and an email delivery service that sends me the contact form notifications.

How long information is kept

I keep contact messages only as long as I need them to respond and for reasonable record-keeping, and I will delete yours if you ask. Analytics and advertising data is kept by those providers under their own policies.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by using the Contact Me page. In Canada, privacy is overseen by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, where you can learn about your rights or raise a concern.

Children

This site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, I will update it here and change the date at the top.
